Custodians of culture

Proclaimed as a South African National Heritage Site, Bushmans Kloof protects more than 130 unique rock art sites across the 7500-hectare reserve. While recognising the immeasurable value these ancient paintings hold in the nation’s cultural landscape, we are honoured to be able to share these shards of human history with visitors.

In addition, the Bushmans Kloof Heritage Centre features a unique collection of artefacts, reference works and photography, documenting the culture and history of the San people.

Rock art workshop

Bushman Kloof welcomes back Stephen, a third-generation rock art enthusiast and accomplished artist. With three books on South African Rock Art and features in documentaries on SATV, BBC, and CNN, Stephen leads a unique workshop. Experience interactive moments while handling traditional paintbrushes at the Rock Art site. The day includes a morning interpretation at Fallen Rock and an afternoon painting workshop, where guests make paint using ochre, charcoal, and clay—an authentic exploration of rock art.

Date: 3rd to 4th May and 6th to 7th September
